Burton Mill Pond Reserve, West Sussex
Burton Mill Pond is a little known reserve just south of Petworth in West Sussex. You can often see Great Crested Grebes and Kingfishers there, and it's also an important breeding sight for reed warblers, which is why it's a favourite place of mine to visit. I've often been early in the morning, before most people are awake, and it's a particularly lovely time to watch the wildlife. The most magical morning was when I saw two kingfishers chasing each other across the water. Sadly, the photos are not very sharp and don't do it justice! Afterwards, one kingfisher came and perched on a wooden railing just a short distance away from me, apparently curious of my presence. What a wonderful memorable moment it was when it turned to look at me.
